Ron has just arrived. He is five years old and is described as a blue, which means he has a beautiful greyish coat and when the sun shines on it, looks almost blue. Ron is not quite ready for re-homing as he needs a check over by the vet and his inoculations. Watch this space for an update.

Heidi
Heidi is a friendly young lurcher girl that likes to play with other dogs. She's good when she's out walking and doesn't pull on her lead and is calm when travelling in a car. Heidi can be a little unsure of noises that are new to her but she's getting used to things quickly. She's keen to please and loves a cuddle with people once they have gained her trust. Unfortunately Heidi scared of children so a home without younger kids would suit her best. We are not sure if Heidi is cat friendly but has been nose to nose with a cat once at the vets and showed no aggression and moved away when directed. Heidi will make the right person a great and loyal companion.
If you would like to give Heidi a permanent home, please Contact Us

Gabe
Gabriel was found tied up and came to us from the pound very underweight. Sadly, somebody had cut his ears off, I can only think it was an attempt to make him look mean. Having been through this trauma you might expect a withdrawn, or aggressive dog but Gabe is neither. He's only about a year old and is a happy, friendly boy who loves attention. He really is a great dog for an active home. He's good with most dogs, is clean in the house and doesn't bark. He's a young, bouncy dog so unlike most greyhounds he wouldn't be suited to a home where people work for long hours, or one with very young children.
If you would like to give Gabe a permanent home, please Contact Us

Toby
Toby is a seven year-old boy who is approx 27" He is good with the other dogs at the kennels. He can sometimes be a puller when out for his walks with the other dogs but can also be easy going when he's out walking on his own. He isn't the most energetic dog in the world, but neither is he a sloth and he slows down to a slower pace in a short time. He has a friendly nature with all the people he's met both in and out of the kennels when being exercised. He isn't thought to be cat friendly and has not been in any contact with small dogs so he is an unknown quantity where they are concerned.
If you would like to give Toby a permanent home, please Contact Us

Barney
Barney is a friendly black boy who is 3yrs old and 27"tall. Barney is very good on the lead and loves going for walks. He does get excited at the prospect of a walk but soon calms down. Barney is very friendly to all his other greyhound pals and walks well with them. Barney is a young, energetic boy who would suit an active couple, a family with older children, or a single person, but not somewhere with cats. Barney can be homed either; on his own, or with another dog who won't mind showing a youngster the ropes and teaching him how to live in a home as part of the family.
If you would like to give Barney a permanent home, please Contact Us

Ben
Ben is a five year-old outgoing lad and is 27" tall. Ben is a strong dog when out walking on the lead but calms down after a while. He has previously been rehomed but was returned due to being non compatable with his previous owners. He is good with other greyhounds and is a very friendly boy with all he meets, but he isn't cat friendly. Ben would suit someone who is energetic.

He's approx 27" tall and has a friendly, happy temperament with the people he comes into contact with and enjoys the company of the other greyhounds he is walked with. Alex
Alex is a loveable, playful three-year-old girl who is completely house trained and stands at approx 26" . Alex is in a foster home at present with two teenage boys and two other greyhounds and she gets on well with both dogs but Alex doesn't like other breeds especially small dogs and she isn't cat friendly. She can sometimes be a little nervous around strangers visiting her home but soon comes round. Unfortunately Alex is scared of very young children so she would suit a home with older kids. She enjoys walks and is very good on her lead when out. All in all she's a great dog.

Renee
A black girl who is seven years old this month and she's our longest resident. There is a brief write-up about her in the enewsletter. Renee can be left for reasonable periods and would be happy as an only dog or with a companion. She is a quiet girl who seemed OK with small dogs at the Pembrey Show. Violet
Violet is a brindle bitch, standing at 26". She is nine years old. Violet lived in a home for several years but was returned due to the ill health of the owner. She is housetrained and can be left for reasonable periods but would prefer not to be an only dog. As with Renee, she seemed OK with small dogs at the Pembrey Show.

Dan
Dan is a lovely black boy and is 4yrs old. Dan is 28" tall and a big softie, he loves his fusses and cuddles and is good on the lead too.
Dan is a new addition and is awaiting all his vet treatment so not quite ready yet for his new home.
Unfortunately for Dan he does look a little older than his years which for some reason puts people off him a bit, but whoever has him will be rewarded with a lovely pet who just wants someone to give him a good home.
Dan will suit a home either with a single person, couple, family with older children or active older person/s, but not with cats. Dan can be homed either as a single dog or with another dog approx the same size as himself.
If you would like to give Dan a permanent home, please Contact Us

Many people write to us and let us know about their Happy Homing of greyhounds and lurchers. You can also see photographs of some of the many other Dogs We Have Homed.
Please see our Homed From Home page for dogs waiting to be brought into our care. These dogs can be homed directly from their current owners.
If you feel you could give that little bit extra to a dog in need maybe in the way of much needed TLC then please see Dogs Who Need A Helping Hand and our Special Dogs page.
1) You can contact GRW either by;
- Email info@greyhoundrescuewales.co.uk Your enquiry will be passed onto the GRW representative in your area so please give both a contact phone number and the area where you live.
- Phoning the GRW national rescue line 0300 0123 999 Your enquiry will be passed on directly to the GRW representative in your area. You will be asked for a contact phone number and the area in which you live.
- Finding a GRW representative for your area in the Contact Us page on the site. The regional representative will be able to answer any questions you may have on the criteria needed to home one of our dogs, general care of the greyhound etc. Although they may not be able to chat specifically about a particular dog you may be enquiring about, they will arrange a home visit with you.
2) The home visit. The home visit by one of our regional representatives is both very informal and very important. The home visit enables you to ask as many questions as you like about the greyhound as a breed and general care of the hound etc. If you have a list of questions prepared your home visitor will be more than happy to answer them. There are a few things that we do insist on when looking for homes for our dogs.
These include:
- A well fenced garden min height of approx 5ft.
- Time the dog is left alone:- We understand that people have to work so if you do work full time we will still consider homing a dog with you as long as you can provide a dog walker or someone to pop round in the day to take him/her out for a walk. If you do work full time and you have someone in mind to help keep your dog stimulated during the time you're out of the house they will need to be present at the home visit.
- All of your circumstances i.e. small children in your home, cats and other pets present, your working hours, your garden etc. will be taken into account at the home visit so we can then try to find a dog to suit your needs.
Please Note. We will not home any of our dogs to someone who wants to use the dog for either racing or working etc. The dogs in our care have been rescued and are with us for a reason, hence them coming into our care to be rehomed as a pet.
3) Match you with a dog After your home visit, the regional representative will contact the Rehoming Commmittee to discuss your home circumstances. They will then phone to have a chat with you about the dogs in our care. Between you, you will probably decide on a few dogs that could be suitable for you. The Rehoming Committee is aware of all the dogs in our care and will be able to guide you in making the right choice for both your family and home circumstances along with the greyhounds' needs.
4) Meet the dogs. Once you've decided you'd like to meet some of the dogs we will contact either the foster home or the kennel coordinator and arrange a visit time. If you have a dog already it's important to bring your dog along to either the foster home or the kennels. You will have the opportunity to go for a short walk with both dogs. If you have children it's also important to bring the children along so they can feel comfortable in the dogs presence before you take him/her home.
5) Adoption. If all goes well and you, your family and your own dog (if you have one) feel the dog you've met is the right one for you and the kennel coordinator feels the same you will be able to take the dog home with you. You will be asked to fill in some paperwork to say you've adopted the dog.
6) Follow up. When you return home with your dog, should you have any problems or just a general question please feel free to phone your home visitor. After 2 to 3 days your home visitor will give you a ring to check all is well with you and after 2 weeks or so your home visitor will do a follow up visit with you to check again that all is well. We will then leave you alone but please do not hesitate to phone if you want to discuss something about your new dog.
Hopefully we'll all meet up again at a fundraising event or street/store collection where you can meet other proud greyhound and lurcher owners.
